District Project - Vidalia Onions
April is
Vidalia Onion Month
in
Alabama Central District
The Alabama Central District has approved a new project to be offered to
clubs in the Alabama Central District. Basically, the project involves
selling Sweet Vidalia Onions. These are US Grade #1 Jumbo Vidalia
Onions. What does this mean to you? The onions are 3” to 4” in size
and weight from 10 to 18 ounces each. US standards for Grade #1 Jumbo
are that no more than 2% decay of 40lbs. In reality, Shuman Produce has
less than 1% rejection from its products. You will be selling the same
quality product that Costco, Publix and other national food chains
sell. But, you will be getting them sooner.
The details of the project are: Club members will pre-sell 10 lb bags
of Vidalia onions during March and April for $10 a bag. Orders are to be
sent to the District Vidalia Onion chair no later than April 30. This is
the final order date. Orders may be sent in sooner if you
want. A club
check for the amount of the order must be included. A delivery date (sometime around mid May) will be set by the
supplier and the clubs will be notified when and where to pick up their
orders. An order form, sales order book, or other type of order form
your club may be using is recommended to help keep track of orders.
Remember, you are selling these in advance and taking their money with
the order.
If you, your club members or anyone else has a question about the
Vidalia Onion Project, please let me know.
