THE CIVITAN INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION
Established in 1960, the Civitan International Foundation, is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation that raises money to support the organizations chartiable activities, including the Civitan International Research Center. The foundation furthers the educational, scientific and chartiable endeavors of Civitan International. Individuals, clubs, and districts can contribute to the work of the Foundation through one or more of the following Foundation programs:
President's Council --This special Foundation program recognizes annual contributors. Tax-deductible membership categories begin with the Council level at $10 per month with higher membership levels available. Lower dues are offered to addit
ional family members. All members receive special recognition, including a lapel pin and invitation to the President's Council Reception at international conventions. Money raised by the President’s Council is used to underwrite the expenses of the Planned Giving program as well as other Foundation programs..
Legacy Society --The Legacy Society recognizes individuals who contribute to the Foundation through a planned gift. Some of the available planned giving options include: bequests, beneficiary designations of life insurance or retirement plan assets, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts and gifts of property. All members receive special recognition, including a lapel pin and an invitation as a guest of honor to the President's Council Reception at international conventions.
Civitans at the Helm -- Clubs that support the Civitan International Foundation are recognized through the Civitans at the Helm program. Recognition levels are determined by the total amount of club gifts each year divided by the number of members in the club at the beginning of the year.
Candy Box -- The Civitan Candy Box program is one of the most important fund-raising activities a club can undertake. Historically, the Candy Box program has raised more revenue for the Foundation than any other Civitan activity. Civitan International provides participating clubs with box displays and candy without charge for a Civitan volunteer to place and maintain. Clubs retain 27%* of the contributions for local charitable projects while clubs remit the remaining 75% to Civitan International to underwrite program expenses leaving a net of approximately 15% for the Foundation. Involvement by a large percentage of Civitan membership is critical to the continued success of this program that helps the local club, district and Foundation.
Coin Box -- Coin boxes can be placed where Candy Boxes are not possible or appropriate. Civitan provides clubs with box displays without charge for a Civitan volunteer to place and maintain. Clubs retain 50% of the contributions for local charitable projects, while clubs remit the remaining 50% to Civitan International to cover program costs leaving approximately 40% for the Foundation.
Fellows Program -- This is a program in which Civitan clubs or individuals can honor a deserving Civitan with a contribution of $250 or $1000. An individual can be designated as a Junior Foundation Fellow, which requires a contribution of $250, a Foundation Fellow, which requires a contribution of $1000, or a Research Center Fellow, which requires a contribution of $1000.
Junior Civitan Programs -- Junior Civitan assists the Civitan International Foundation in its efforts to raise money for the Civitan International Research Center through numerous fund raisers such as Sno-Do, which entails a thrilling snowmobile ride through the woodlands of Ontario, Canada; the Dance-a-thon, a dance marathon also held in Canada; and Walk-N-Roll, an event held in central Florida that consists of a 5K course that participants may run, walk, roller blade or wheelchair.
