An active Civitan for 36 years, Thomas is a member of the St. Petersburg Civitan Club in the Sunshine District and has served in many positions on the club, district and international levels. Those positions include president of the St. Petersburg Civitan Club in 1969, Civitan Florida District Governor in 1975, and Civitan Florida District Director in years 1982 and 1983. On the international level, Thomas served as International Director for Region 2 from 1984-1986 and served on the International Planned Giving Committee as Chairman from 1991-2000. Thomas was also recognized in 1985 as a Certified Club Builder and has received numerous awards that reflect his hard work and dedication to the organization.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Thomas has received club, district and Civitan International Honor Keys, which is the highest honor that a Civitan member can receive. He was named Distinguished Club President during his term, has received an Outstanding Service Award for work completed in Region 2 as International Director, and has been awarded the Outstanding Civitan Award in both the Civitan Florida District and Sunshine District.
His wife, Peggy, their three daughters, Barbara, Tracy and Susan, along with their eight grandchildren, support Thomas in his endeavors.
Thomas is also active in the community as a member of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce where he has served as Chairman of the Leadership Planning Committee, Western Area Vice President and Vice President of Public Affairs. Thomas also participates as a member of the First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks, WorkNet, the Suncoast Estate Planning Council, Tampa Bay Area Planned Giving Council and the Florida Association of Rehabilitation Facilities.
